What Pregnancy Truly Is

We are told that pregnancy is when a woman’s egg is fertilized and it grows into a baby, which is born about nine months later.
This is true, but it’s not all there is about pregnancy.
Pregnancy is a spiritual process where a woman acts as a spiritual anchor for an incoming soul. This is a highly spiritual practice which has lost most of it's sacredness over time.
There are so many ceremonial aspects to this process. For example, the would-be mother and father could each go out into nature to connect with the incoming souls considering incarnation.
Upon pregnancy, the mother could commune with the incoming soul out in nature. She could hear the baby's name (yes, soul's often have name preferences!).
The process of pregnancy itself would include nurturing the body, mind and spirit throughout the entire experience.
Nearing birth, a union of community as the community of guardians comes together for the passing of the torch ceremony (See Who Are Your Guardians article for more detail). This would include sacred music of the land, chants, prayers, etc.
During the entirety of pregnancy, the mother's responsibility is to not only safe-keep the growing body, but to act as a constant and continuous bridge for the baby’s soul to come and go.
The mother is bridging the spiritual realms to the physical world. It is a sacred act.
